Hughes was a very strong, self-reliant man who overcame the adversities of life and inconsistency from his family and society to eventually save up wonderful poems, pitiable stories, and plays. Langston Hughes liked to think of himself as just an African American, but he was actually much more than that. Hughes was very unique.
